Benjarong is a traditional form of hand painted Thai porcelain that dates back over 400 years. Literally translated, it means 5 colors. Originally Benjarong porcelain artists always used 5 colors to decorate their work although today, anywhere from 3 to 8 colors are used.
The production process is incredibly labor-intensive, as each of is applied individually and the piece is kiln fired after the application of each color. The firing process brightens the colors of the finished piece and adds to its beauty.
