These small baskets were inspired by the traditional "Ukhamba" or beer basket, a bulb-shaped basket with a lid, traditionally used to store the local brew. Made in South Africa by Ilala Weavers, these miniature versions are used to store dry herbs. The Zulu's use herbs for cooking and also herbs prescribed by the the Nyanga (herbalist) or Sangoma (witchdoctor) to cure various ailments.
