This beautiful little trinket box exhibits the glossy beauty of turned mpingo wood. Mpingo is also known as East African Blackwood and is the same wood used to make some of the world's finest woodwind instruments.
Crafted by artisans in the Nampula region of Mozambique, each box is created from wood that is sourced in a sustainable manner. Mozambique's massive portion of Miombo woodlands still contains a number of desirable hardwood species, but artisans are encouraged to freely utilize fallen wood, and others take advantage of off-casts from the production of blanks for instrument production.
