A beautiful and novel piece of art, this actual backstrap loom splendidly displays a traditional Ikat-patterned textile framed by the wood of the loom.
Made by Tz'utijil women belonging to the San Juan weaving group in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala, this textile is created using Ikat, an ancient labor intensive technique of hand tying and dying the warp threads a deep indigo color before weaving, resulting in pictorial patterns.
