Crewelwork is a decorative form of surface embroidery using wool and a variety of different embroidery stitches to follow a design outline applied to the fabric. The technique is at least a thousand years old.
For women in rural and urban India, embroidery is an intrinsic part of their lifestyle and they adorn their clothing with specific designs for special occasions. Today, embroidery is an important source of income for many women and, with increasing respect and appreciation for these products, they are able to live with greater dignity and prosperity.
