Boma is known as a protector spirit on the Indonesian island of Bali. He appears in the form of a lion and is both ferocious and somewhat cartoonish at the same time. The Balinese place representations of Boma over doors and entryways to repel "layak", or bad spirits, and prevent them from gaining entrance to homes and temples.
This Boma mask is hand carved, hand painted and has removable side pieces. It is approximately 20" high x 23" wide x 7" deep.
